Welcome - St Thomas’s is a Church of England Church within the Diocese of Worcester

Dear Friends,

Welcome to St Thomas' website.

St Thomas is an attractive Georgian Church to be found in the town centre of Stourbridge, affectionately known as "St Thomas' opposite Waitrose".

Its worship and tradition is liberal catholic, but it is also a place where we hope people are challenged by the gospel teaching (see services).

The church was founded to serve the townspeople of Stourbridge and built by public subscription. It was here for over 100 years before being fully incorporated into the structures of the Church of England (see History).

The present congregation is of a good age and social mix and very welcoming and can be met at coffee after the Sunday morning service. The church also has a fine musical tradition (see Music).

We hope you enjoy visiting St Thomas' website, and we hope to welcome you to the church itself.

APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Jon Payne as our new Director of Music. Jon was born in Skegness and studied music at the University of Surrey. Following this he was Director of the Wenhaston Boys’ Choir in Suffolk, and actively involved with the Aldeburgh Festival. He was then Organ Scholar at Norwich Cathedral, following which he was recruited to Norfolk Music Education Service as their choral animateur. He directed the Norfolk County Youth Choir, and was subsequently appointed to a similar post in Solihull.
He has led workshops and longer-term educational projects across the country, working with over sixty adult and youth choirs. He is presently director of the Pearsall Consort, a professional male-voice chamber choir, and works freelance as an accompanist, conductor and composer.
