Since the Appeal was launched in June 2006 we have raised
in in excess of £400,000.
This has been achieved by grants from English Heritage, Worcestershire and
Dudley Historic Trust,The National Churches Trust and the Wylde Trust, individual
donations and fund raising activities including Concerts, Biennial Flowers
festival ,Cocerts and the Sponsored Bible Reading organised with Stourbridge
Rotary Club.
What we have done:
Nave roof repairs so the roof is now watertight in 2008 (£205,000|)
Repairs to the transverse beams above north and south galleries in 2009 (£95,000)
Repairs to roofs of the South Porch and Church Hall
Repairs to some of the rotten windows in the Church Hall
Repairs to and re-gilding of the weather vane, globe and cardinal points on
the Tower
What next ?
Strengthen the structure of the fine plaster barrel ceiling (which is one
of the main reasons the Church is Grade 1 listed)English Heritage has offered
a grant of £32,000 (anticipated cost £95,00) and if we can
raise sufficient funds this work will be carried out in 2010/.2011
When this is completed the church will need to be redecorated.
Then repair of the organ will be completed in stages, the first the replacement
of keyboards in 2010. The total renovation will cost about £150,000.
Hopefully, we will also we able to bring the galleries back into use, improving
the Church lighting, upgrading the Church Hall facilities and improving disabled
access.
There is still much to be done but we are convinced that with the love and
generosity of people in Stourbridge and beyond , we will meet our targets
and that t St Thomas' mission in the town with continue through the 21st Century.
