Please
join Stourbridge Christian Aid supporters on Saturday
April 28th from 10 am – 12 noon in St Thomas’s
garden opposite Waitrose in Market Street. Our MP, Linda
Waltho, will plant a tree to remind us of the stories
of women like Mairam Djiby Diallo from Senegal. You
will also be celebrating a birthday, enjoying a coffee
morning, hearing Charlotte Marshall from Christian Aid
talking about its work and also…. possibly experiencing
a “musical interlude”! Do join the celebration!
Mairam
Djiby Diallo lives in northern Senegal an area which
is becoming desert due to climate change. But Christian
Aids’ partner USE runs tree planting seminars
there and Mairam has learnt how to grow mango saplings
which will give her a better diet and also fruit to
sell. In addition the trees will help regenerate the
area. For Mairam the mango saplings mean a whole new
life.
The
annual Christian Aid Street Collection is 50 years old
this year. Please support the tree planting on April
28th which is in part a celebration of those 50 years
and an inspiration for us to go on collecting!
Christian
Aid Week runs from May 13th – 19th in 2007 and
the key message is “Growing a Future”. On
average each Christian Aid collector raises £33.50---
enough money to plant more than 50 mango saplings in
northern Senegal!
Could
you also help with the street collection from your church
this year? Please contact your church “organiser”
for Christian Aid Week.
